Art in the Country

For all those with a hidden creative streak who have longed to make art of some sort, this is a chance to do so in a most pleasant and supportive atmosphere.

Art Courses, Art Workshops and Creative Weekends catering for small groups or individuals, are offered at Schaefers’ Halt.
Art lessons are conducted in the Waenhuis Studio beside a dam, in the barn Afdak or in the open air under the shade of willow trees.

  • A short Art Course in a chosen medium, 3 hours for an individual, would be a pleasant and productive adjunct to a fishing weekend. This could be an introduction to a particular medium or an extension of various techniques. Art Materials can be arranged at a small fee if required.
  • Art Workshops, from 4 hours for a group, could be just the right relaxing activity needed for a Corporate Conference.
  • Art Week Ends on Saturdays and Sunday morning, 8.5 hours (including Saturday lunch and all teas) might be a wonderful bonding opportunity for a small group and a good way to find a preferred medium.

We offer life drawing, portraiture, landscape painting and botanical art using a variety of media e.g. watercolour, graphics, pastels and mixed media.

Art Material and Equipment
Art materials should be provided by candidates (unless special arrangements have been made) and a detailed list will be sent to you.

Art making for the beginner can be stressful, especially if one is put on the spot, so we try to make the whole experience pleasurable and fun, in fact, an experience that one would like to repeat!

The beautiful is in nature, and it is encountered under the most diverse forms of reality. Once it is found it belongs to art, or rather to the artist who discovers it.” Gustave Courbet.
